Tuross Head Bowling Club – Handicap Lightning Pairs

Last Saturday (25/7) the Handicap Lightning Pairs were played in beautiful sunny conditions. As we had not played this style of match for some time there were a few early teething issues, but we got them sorted. Thanks to Marcel for coordinating the draw. There were 12 teams in total, who played in 4 groups of 3 teams, each team played 2 games of 5 ends.  Four teams based on their scores went onto the semi-final and final.

Semi-final 1 saw the team of Rose Farrington and Warren Hodder play Graeme Garner and Chris Bright. The semi-finals were played over seven ends. Graeme and Chris were the winners of this semi-final by 6 shots to 3.

In semi-final 2 the team of Mark Velder and Julie Barningham played Sue Innes and Neil Mather. Sue and Neil won this game 12-4 to move into the final against Graeme and Chris.

The final started with Sue and Neil picking up 4 shots on the first end, the second end resulted in no score as both teams had a bowl too close to the Jack to measure. On the third end Sue and Neil picked up another 4 shots to lead 8-0. In the fourth end, Chris and Graeme opened the account with 2 shots to trail 8-2. Sue and Neil picked up a further 4 shots on the fifth end to extend their lead to 12-2. Graeme and Chris picked up a 6 on the sixth end to get themselves back in the game at 8-12. On the end, Sue and Neil picked up 1 shot to take the match 13-8. Sue and Neil took away the prize money on the day.

Sue played the perfect lead bowlers game all day, always having bowls in the head.

Many of the players continued the day by sharing a few drinks afterwards. Overall, it was a successful day, and it appeared that the handicap system worked and a lot of fun was had by all.
