Open Gender Bowlers Finally Have Some Success

After a very tough season the Tuross Head Open Gender Pennant players have finally tasted some success.  The Grade 5 side recorded their first win of the season when they had a convincing win playing away to Dalmeny in round 5.  The Grade 7 side had a very close game with Moruya in Moruya that finished in a draw on the ‘main board’.

The Grade 5 side had two very big wins that ensured they recorded a strong victory.  Geoff Lee, Bruce Magilton, Sue Fahey and Marcel Kors dominated their clash.  After 13 ends they had a match winning lead of 25 – 8.  They won 14 of the 21 ends to win 37 – 16.

After a slow start, Jim Macklan, Noel Downie, Peter Macdonald and Bruce Lidbury also dominated their game. They also won 14 ends to chalk up a 30 shots to 12 win.  The third rink of Rita Downie, Vickie Wheelahan, Irene Macdonald and John Monks found themselves in a one-sided game, winning only 5 ends and going down 25 – 9.

Overall Tuross won 76 shots to 53 and picked up 9 points to Dalmeny’s 1.

The Grade 7 side had a very Close game at Moruya.  On the back of a very strong performance from Mick Challice, John Wagstaff, Graeme Garner and Allan Etheredge the master board favoured Tuross for much of the clash.  After 33 of the 63 ends Tuross had a 44 to 25 lead.  Moruya fought back strongly so that by the 51stend they had a narrow 53 – 52 advantage.

The last 12 ends were very exciting with both sides having a chance for victory.  Moruya moved to a 60 to 54 lead after 57 ends.  The Tuross sides struck back in the final 6 ends to see the final score 64 all!  With two of the games completed Tuross held a 64 – 62 lead but Moruya were able to grab 2 shots on the final rink to draw the game.

Etheredge’s team won their game 28 -14 but Moruya won the other two rinks 27 – 20 and 23 – 16 so that Moruya had a very narrow overall points win.  Moruya finished with a 5.5 points to Tuross’ 4.5 points.
